Welcome
Palms are considered the universal symbols of the tropics. They are one of the most economically important plant families worldwide. Their unique morphology, architecture, exquisite texture and form of leaves and stems, and ultimately their great beauty and diversity, make them widely grown as ornamental plants in tropical and subtropical areas. Palms have been increasingly produced at the commercial level for landscape use and interiorscape, comprising a significant portion of the ornamental horticulture industry in Florida.
We at the Tropical Research & Education Center and the Department of Environmental Horticulture, IFAS, University of Florida, are proud to offer a course on the production and culture of these wonderful plants. We aim to provide students with knowledge and better understanding of general aspects of palm biology, classification, identification and cultural practices, in an environment that will stimulate critical thinking and enhance the student's learning experience.
Enjoy it!
