Dr. A. Malek Hammami

Assistant Professor — Agricultural Economics

Dr. A. Malek Hammami represents the Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Florida's Tropical Research & Education Center (TREC). He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a specialization in agricultural trade, production, and development economics and Industrial organization.

His research program centers on the production and marketing of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental crops as well as the non-market valuation of goods and services with the goal of assessing and promoting the economic efficiency and environmental sustainability of agricultural systems. His extension program is dedicated to addressing the pressing agribusiness challenges faced by south Florida agri-food industries. This includes guiding stakeholders in identifying and capitalizing on new market opportunities, optimizing farm budgets for fruit, vegetable, and ornamental crops, and delivering comprehensive economic assessments of emerging technologies, the impacts of pathogens and evolving policy frameworks.
