Soil, Water, & Ecosystem Sciences

The Soil, Water, & Ecosystem Sciences program at the Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC) addresses soil and water quality issues in South Florida, including the Everglades and Biscayne Bay. The program focuses on nutrient cycling in coastal ecosystems and calcareous soils. The Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences group at TREC investigates how environmental change and ecosystem restoration affect carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles and develops best management practices (BMPs) to improve nutrient use efficiency, crop production, and water quality in agricultural and natural ecosystems.
