Other Resources

  • the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - Compliance

UF/IFAS is committed to diversity of people, thought and opinion, to inclusiveness, and to equal opportunity. Providing universal access to all of our content and events reduces barriers to participation and may lead to a broader audience for our programs.

    Content Design

As faculty, staff, and content creators, we all share a role in accessibility. When we create accessible content, we remove barriers by ensuring that all individuals, no matter their ability, disability, skills, or language level, have access to the materials we have created.

The University of Florida's Center for Instructional Technology and Training offers short and informative videos which feature a different accessibility skill that you can incorporate into your content design. If you create content accessed by the public, we encourage you to engage with CITT's Accessibility in 5 monthly video series.

    Additional Trainings

    • UF/IFAS ADA Trainings: Document Accessibility

    Affirmative Action Statement

All UF/IFAS materials should include an affirmative action statement, usually at the end of the publication, handbook, or other printed material. If you are unsure about including a statement, please contact IFAS Communications. There is no specific size requirement for this information, and it can be located anywhere on the publication. Below is the ADA statement for TREC personnel to include in any notice or flyer of an event taking place at the UF/IFAS TREC.

[[ The University of Florida is committed to providing universal access to all of our events. For disability accommodations such as sign language interpreters and listening devices, please contact Monique Scoggin, mis6664@ufl.edu, 305.217.9226 at least 1 week in advance. Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs. ]]

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Guidelines for EDIS Authors when using AI Tools

UF/IFAS Communications provides these guidelines at a point in time when AI tools are evolving. While the tools and their capabilities will change rapidly, the ethical considerations described here are applicable to any AI or AI-assisted tools used in developing content.

    AI Foundations (Certificate Program)

AI Foundations certificate is a program for those interested in learning and acquiring knowledge and skills in AI from how to adopt different AI tools for work, how to maximize the capability of AI text generators, how to construct appropriate prompts (inputs) for desired outputs, and how to use AI image generators to expand your creativity.

    Generative AI guidelines

These guidelines are designed to help UF’s communications and marketing professionals engage effectively with this rapidly emerging and evolving technology and understand its benefits as well as its limitations related to their work at UF. If you engage with the public, especially as a part of Extension efforts, you should consider yourself a communications professional.

    NIFA Branding

The official NIFA identifier was updated in November 2020 and is now comprised of the USDA logo with NIFA signature lockup. Per NIFA regulations and guidelines, it is expected that grantees use NIFA’s official identifier in publications, posters, websites and presentations resulting from their award. The updated official NIFA identifier should be used on all print and digital materials moving forward.

Faculty Handbook - The UF Faculty Handbook is intended to be general reference rather than the official source of university policies and guidelines.

UF/IFAS Directory - The UF/IFAS Directory allows people to find you by name or expertise, and can also be used to curate lists of department and staff, and find listservs. This tool works best when everyone has an updated directory listing. It is recommended that everyone review their UF/IFAS Directory once per year to ensure that the information is accurate.

To update your listing, use the My Directory tab at the top of the page (you may have to sign in).

     A few tips:

    • Add your social media handles and scientific links for Google Scholar and ORCID.
    • Are you part of the AI team? Please include the full keyword  “artificial intelligence” as a part of your specialty (not just ‘AI’).
    • Do you speak a language other than English? Add it!
    • If you add your cell phone, that will NOT be publicly accessible, but is good for your teammates to find you when needed.
    • Do you have a name that could be difficult to pronounce? There is a feature for you to upload a recording of the pronunciation of your name.
    • Update your headshot. You can email Yomiris Reyes for an updated photo.

Are you new to UF/IFAS and not yet listed in the directory?  Please contact Maria Bernal to be added.

    • Deepfake Phishing - At the start of each academic term, higher education institutions experience an increase in social engineering attempts.
